FTA Ireland is a member-led trade association representing the Irish freight, passenger transport and logistics sectors. Established to provide operators with up-to-date guidance on fleet operational compliance while also representing industry interests with government agencies and key stakeholders. Supporting organisations across road, rail, sea and air, FTA Ireland works to strengthen compliance, improve operational performance, and promote safe, efficient, and sustainable transport operations across the wider supply chain.
The organisation delivers a broad range of practical, industry-focused services designed to help operators manage risk, meet legal obligations, and maintain high professional standards. These include training, consultancy, compliance support, tachograph analysis, technical guidance and recognised operational standards such as TruckSafe™ , VanSafe and PassengerSafe . FTA Ireland also supports members in responding to changing regulation, operational priorities, and the transition to more sustainable and resilient transport systems. Its work is grounded in real operational experience and focused on helping businesses improve oversight, strengthen capability, and drive continuous improvement.
A key part of FTA Ireland’s contribution to the sector is workforce and skills development. It is the lead proposer for two important apprenticeship pathways: the Logistics Associate Apprenticeship and the Transport Operations & Commercial Driving Apprenticeship . These programmes were developed to help address long-term skills shortages and create structured career pathways into logistics and commercial driving, combining practical workplace learning with formal academic study leading to Level 6 National Framework Qualifications (NFQ). In doing so, FTA Ireland is helping to build a safer, more capable, and more sustainable future for the transport and logistics industry.
